Hall of Famer given knife in backstage argument, threatened to cut Ric Flair's throat.
Teddy Long and Ric Flair had their issues when they were both part of the NWA. Long, 76, recalled a time when he was having problems with the Nature Boy, and late Texan wrestler Gary Hart offered him a solution. Long was given a blade in case he needed to attack Flair.

"I was having problems with [Ric] Flair and I guess Gary [Hart] probably knew what was going on so he came to me one time and told me he made this blade and he said if Flair kept bothering me, he told me to take that blade and cut his throat," Long told Wrestling Shoot Interviews. "My right hand to God, I’d have no reason to lie! And so that’s how the blade come about. Gary just didn’t appreciate the way I was being treated. I wasn’t bothering nobody, I was just doing my job."

Long refused to elaborate further on the situation when he was asked about Flair's legacy earlier this year. "No comment," Long said. "Like I said. If you’ve got nothing good to say about anybody, just don’t say nothing."

When it comes to the blade he was given, Long said it was something he could easily hide in his pocket. "[Hart] had made it and he put it in a little thing. I can’t describe it, but it had the blade inside of it, so I don’t know how big it was or nothing," he added. "It was made where you didn’t really know it was a blade if anyone didn’t know it, you could just put it in your pocket."

Long didn’t use the blade, but he kept it anyway. He admitted it’s ‘probably’ still somewhere in his house. "I have that blade. It’s probably in my house right now, because I put stuff up like that. I kept that," he said. "I wanted to remember how I got there, and what that was all about."
