Recent tech layoffs have hit thousands of workers hard but it seems not even the robots have been spared. Everyday Robots, which was a part of Alphabet’s X moonshot lab, was shut down as a consequence of budget cuts across the Google parent, as per a spokeswoman's confirmation. Denise Gamboa, director of marketing and communications for Everyday Robots, stated that the project would no longer exist as a separate entity, with some of the technology and part of the team being consolidated into existing robotics efforts within Google Research. Last month, Google’s parent company, Alphabet announced that it was shedding approximately 12,000 jobs or 6% of its personnel in response to the different economic climate. Following the launch of Microsoft’s ChatGPT-powered Bing, Google has created its own AI chatbot, Bard, and has directed its research, trust and safety teams to concentrate on the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products.
