Gogglebox fans would be thrilled to hear that Tom Malone Jr hasn’t ruled out a return to the beloved reality show, nearly three years after quitting. The TikTok star left in February 2021 following six years as an armchair critic and, since then, has been pursuing a range of other projects including dancing.
When asked about the possibility of re-joining the cast of Gogglebox, Tom told the Daily Express: “If I was able to do all of the stuff that I do now, then I’d be open to it. But I think due to the nature of the stuff I’m doing, I don’t think it would be a possibility. If it was, I’d definitely be open to it.”
Tom’s family, including brother Shaun and parents Tom and Julie, have been on Gogglebox since 2014 and are still very much part of the family. Tom announced his departure from Gogglebox on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself holding up a sign which read: ‘Back on the market. Get at me with any TV work.’
He wrote: “So after 6 and a half years it’s finally time to put down the remote and say goodbye to Gogglebox. I’ve loved every minute and I’m eternally grateful to Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for allowing me to be a part of the show. But new opportunities are knocking on the door and it’s time to explore them.”
Tom’s exit prompted a flurry of well-wishes from his Gogglebox co-stars, including from Ellie Warner, who wrote: ‘All the best Tom’ with a love heart emoji. Since leaving Gogglebox, Tom has worked with Pro-Excel, a Manchester-based organisation that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds to create opportunities.
Speaking about his involvement, Tom said: “I was lucky to be from a two parent household where my mum would drive me to dance classes or boxing to make sure I could do the things I wanted to do, a lot of people from my background don’t have that.”
Gogglebox is available to stream on Channel 4 and fans will be hoping for Tom’s return if he is able to pursue his other projects. Whatever the outcome, Tom has left a lasting impression on viewers and his co-stars after six years as an armchair critic.
