The justice system has achieved a major success in stopping an organised crime group who were converting blank-firing guns into live firearms and flooding the streets with them. Through a diligent investigation, police uncovered a large-scale criminal plot and arrested the gang members involved. Darren James, 37, was stopped and a revolver-type antique firearm, component parts and other items of interest were found in the BMW he was driving. Upon further investigation, two converted short-barrelled guns, ammunition, another gun, a loaded magazine, and a silencer were also seized from another address. The police uncovered a large-scale operation after they discovered 15 blank firearms, 40 blank cartridges, and a modified lathe and drill press at the Nottingham address of Andrew Wheelhouse, 41. Further investigation revealed that the group were involved in storing, moving, and supplying the firearms.

As well as the arrest of Wheelhouse, other members of the gang were detained by police. Darren James, 37, was stopped and arrested in April 2021 and a revolver-type antique firearm, component parts and other items were found in the BMW he was driving. Two Audis were stopped the next day, with a case containing a gun, magazine, and rounds discovered. The occupants - Alam, Mahmood, Butterworth, Galloway, and Tyrone Thomas - were arrested. Subsequently, two converted short-barrelled guns, ammunition, another gun, a loaded magazine, and a silencer were seized from another address.

The successful police investigation has resulted in the gang being brought to justice, providing a positive change to the streets and restoring safety to the community.
