Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – gaming is not a cheap hobby. As a recent father of twins, I’ve been debating the price of the game and if it’s worth the money for a game that only lasts 15 hours. I’ve come to the conclusion that, for me, the cost isn’t worth it.
Between the cost of the game and my responsibilities as a dad, I’m just too short of money to even consider buying it. I don’t have much free time, either, so I would’ve been able to fit in the ‘short’ 15+ hour campaign if I could’ve afforded it.
However, the debate about the value of Spider-Man 2 has made me realize that gaming these days is just too expensive. I understand why game prices go up, but it’s reached a point where I have to say no.
It’s not just the cost of the game, either. There are lots of upcoming games this year I would’ve been interested in, like Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Alan Wake 2. Plus, there’s the Switch 2 and PS5 Pro to think about. It’s all too much.
I’m not blaming Sony or anyone else for the cost of gaming, but it’s time for me to make a change. I can’t keep spending what little money I have on games when I have responsibilities. I might come back to gaming in a few years, but I’ll sell my newer consoles and keep my older ones to play some of my favorite retro games.
If Sony had a true equivalent of Game Pass it might’ve been different. Being able to play Spider-Man 2 for no extra cost on day one would’ve been tempting, even if subscription prices are getting more expensive.
But, ultimately, it’s not just about the money. It’s about being responsible. I don’t think it’s right to be stealing time away from my kids to play a video game. I need some ‘me time’, but not when it costs so much.
I’ve reached my limit with gaming and it’s time for me to be more responsible with my money and my time. That’s why I’ve decided to stop spending on video games.
