Frankie Beverly starts his final tour with a proclamation from Atlanta.
The city of Atlanta was buzzing with excitement as they welcomed the R&B legend Frankie Beverly & Maze for their farewell tour. The energy was palpable as fans poured into the State Farm Arena, eager to see the iconic group perform one last time. And Atlanta didn't hold back in showing their love and appreciation for Beverly, as he was honored with the city's highest recognition during his final show in the peach city.

As the concert began, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet took to the stage to present Beverly with a Proclamation, acknowledging his decades-long commitment to Black excellence. The crowd erupted into a standing ovation, chanting "Go Frankie, Go Frankie" in support of the beloved musician.

Mayor Dickens addressed the audience, "Listen up everybody, I'm here with our great councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet. We got some awards and honors to give to the one and only Frankie Beverly." Councilwoman Overstreet added, "This is absolutely wonderful and we are so pleased that you chose Atlanta, Georgia, the ATL, to start your Farewell Tour. So much so that the city of Atlanta is honoring you with our proclamation and award from our mayor because you bring us happy feelings, deep in our souls, with your music."

The night was a trip down memory lane, as Beverly and Maze performed their timeless hits that have been the soundtrack to many concertgoers' lives. The audience sang along to every word, much to Beverly's amazement. "I can't believe y'all know all the words," he exclaimed, before launching into the popular song "I Wanna Thank You."

But Beverly wasn't the only legend in the building that night. Thee Chaka Khan took the stage before Beverly and wowed the crowd with her own catalog spanning almost 50 years. And 90s songbird Trina Broussard joined Beverly on stage, adding her powerhouse vocals to the mix. The evening also featured soulful performances by El Debarge, proving that age is just a number when it comes to music.

The Black Promoters Collective, who presented the farewell tour, shared their excitement for the event. "Beverly is embarking on this farewell tour before slowing down to enjoy life in his California Bay Area home," they stated in a press release. And after the tour wraps, Beverly will head to Philadelphia for a street renaming ceremony, honoring the city where he and his group first launched their iconic musical legacy.
