As per the police, the unfortunate event took place at around 11 am in Chitri Ambatoli village, located approximately 80 km away from Ranchi, the capital city of the state. The workers were employed under the MGNREGA project, a government scheme for rural employment, and were in the process of digging a well when the incident happened.

According to a senior officer, the police immediately launched a rescue operation upon receiving the news. However, all four labourers were found deceased. The Senha police station in-charge, Vedant Shankar, stated that the accident occurred when a part of the earth collapsed on the workers while they were digging the well. Despite the efforts made by the police and the use of excavators and other equipment, the four individuals could not be saved.

The victims were identified as Abu Rehan Ansari, Shabnam Khatun, Ramjan Ansari, and Bhagat. As per Shankar, their bodies were recovered from the site and were sent for post-mortem examination. It is truly heart-wrenching to hear of such a devastating loss of life, especially while they were simply trying to earn a living.
