To pay tribute to Vajpayee on this day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled a statue of the former prime minister in Sambalpur district, while state Minister K C Mohapatra inaugurated another statue in Mayurbhanj district. The state unit of BJP also felicitated four distinguished individuals with the "Atal Samman" award. The chief minister, along with BJP state president Manmohan Samal, presented the award to former minister Bimbadhar Kanhar, poet Kananbala Patnaik, senior journalist Rajaram Satpathy, and social activist Rudra Narayan Mohapatra.
