Diana Ramos, a 66-year-old flight attendant for American Airlines from Las Vegas, was found dead in a Marriott hotel room at Philadelphia International Airport on Monday night. Cleaning staff had discovered her two days after she was supposed to check out of the hotel.
Images from Ramos' Facebook page showed her wearing an American Airlines flight attendant outfit and a pink tie-dyed dress with the ocean in the background. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that Ramos was found with a cloth stuffed in her mouth, which was later revealed to be a sock.
Ramos had worked for American Airlines for 25 years and was on a layover in Philadelphia after staffing a flight from Los Angeles. An American Airlines spokesperson said that staff were ‘devastated by the news’ and that they would be doing all they could to ‘ensure all affected have the support they need during this difficult time.’
An investigation into Ramos' death is ongoing and her death is being considered ‘suspicious’. An anonymous American Airlines flight attendant told People that ‘everybody is still trying to figure out what happened and why her crew just left her’. Small previously said that Ramos appeared to suffer a ‘sudden death’ and there were no signs of forced entry into the hotel room. Sealed bottles of prescription drugs were reportedly found and she was believed to have been on several medications.
Ramos' body was taken to a medical examiner's office on Wednesday and the results of the autopsy are still pending. As more information is revealed, American Airlines has stated that they will continue to cooperate fully with local law enforcement in their investigation.
