On Sunday night, a major fire broke out in Pimpri Chinchwad city's Tathawade area after multiple LPG cylinders exploded, causing fear and panic among the local people.
According to the fire officials, it is suspected that LPG was being illegally filled into the cylinders from a tanker. As a result, a couple of buses belonging to a nearby college also caught fire. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm and four to five LPG cylinders were reported to have exploded.
People on social media reported hearing consecutive huge noises and felt vibrations up to 1 Km. A tanker containing the LPG, however, remained unaffected.
An official from the Pimpri Chinchwad fire department said that upon receiving information regarding the incident, fire tenders and water tankers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Thanks to the prompt response, the fire was successfully brought under control.
The loud explosions had triggered a panic among the locals. Fortunately, no casualties were reported due to the fire. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and an investigation is underway.
