FAP Cup Hockey Tournament to Begin in Madikeri on the 30th

Madikeri, Oct 15: The second edition of the FAP Cup Hockey Tournament is scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 1 at the synthetic turf ground of the SAI Sports Training Centre in the district headquarters, Madikeri.

The tournament will be conducted under the aegis of 'Hockey Coorg,' in collaboration with the Coorg Hawks Hockey Club and the United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC) from Kerala. Participants will include 'Masters' hockey teams—comprising men aged 40+ and women aged 35+—as well as boys' and girls' teams in the under-16 age category. While various hockey tournaments are held across the district, this event is unique: it brings together both seniors and juniors on the same ground at the same time through separate competitions. The initiative aims to keep the sport of hockey alive among the older generation while providing encouragement to the youth. Last year, the tournament was held in Ponnampet; this year, the second edition is set to take place in Madikeri. Mekerira Bellu Kuttappa, originally from Halugunda, is an ardent hockey enthusiast; it is through his keen interest and initiative that this tournament is being organized. He has a long-standing history of conducting various types of hockey tournaments—not only within the district but also in Bengaluru and Muscat—and has been consistently working towards the development of the sport. He also serves as the manager of the 'Coorg Hawks' team.
