The Florida A&M Rattlers football team has been suspended from all activities by Head Coach Willie Simmons following the release of an unsanctioned rap video. The video was recorded and posted by Tallahassee rapper Real Boston Richey, also known as Jalen Foster, who had performed at the team's homecoming game last year.
After being alerted to the video by the university, Coach Simmons took swift action and plans to meet with the players featured in the video over the weekend. He released a statement on Twitter, saying in part that the video was "not consistent with Florida A&M’s core values, principles, and beliefs."
Simmons says any further disciplinary action will be determined at a team meeting on Monday, July 24. For now, only players who need treatment from the team's training staff or doctors will be allowed access to the team's facilities.
Despite the suspension, the team still plans to participate in the SWAC's media day on Tuesday, July 25. The spokesman for the athletic department, Josh Padilla, announced that quarterback Jeremy Moussa and cornerback Javan Morgan will be representing the team. Neither player appears to have been present during the filming of the video.
Florida A&M will open its season at home against Jackson State on September 3rd. Coach Simmons and the administration will be closely monitoring the team's activities in the meantime.
