Have you heard the news? Rosie Marcel, known for her role as Jac Naylor on Holby City, recently opened up about a big change in her life following the show's cancellation. In the final episode of the popular BBC One medical drama in 2022, Rosie's character Jac met her demise. This unexpected ending not only left fans devastated, but also left the cast and crew in a tough spot, having to find new projects to work on. Rosie shared with us earlier this year that while she has enjoyed the extra time with her family post-Holby, she has yet to return to the world of acting.
"It's been incredibly quiet on the work front for me, but incredibly busy on the life front. I'm not sure how I managed to do that job for so long because when you stop, you suddenly realize how exhausted you are. My days are now filled to the brim with various responsibilities. It's been a tough few years for us, but I'm hoping that by moving in a positive direction, it will have a positive impact on the rest of our lives."
Rosie also shared her thoughts on the changing landscape of television. "It took a lot from all of us. On a personal level, we all loved our characters and each other like family. It's hard when someone puts a stop to that. If the show hadn't ended, I would still be there, but I probably wouldn't be as happy as I am now. My life is so different from what it was, and I am grateful in some ways that it ended because I have had so much time with my family and figuring out what I want to do. I can't really go back, plus that last episode still gets me emotional."
But Rosie isn't sitting around waiting for her next acting gig. She recently shared some big news on social media. "Many of you have been wondering what we're up to now that I can't seem to find an acting job. Unfortunately, my husband's gym has closed down, and we both found ourselves unemployed and running out of money quickly. However, we had put in planning permission to build a house on one of our barns at the stables. It was our plan to sell it, but our lovely neighbors offered to buy the plot with the planning. This provided us with the funds to finally renovate our own house after three and a half years. We're really looking forward to it. So yeah, we're unemployed, but at least we have a project to keep us busy!"
The news sparked a lot of comments from Rosie's followers, with many hoping to see her back on their screens soon. During our chat with Rosie in March, she also discussed the changes in the television industry. "I think it's the end of an era. We saw it with the cancellation of Doctors as well. It's been a long time coming, and I think it started with The Bill. I think it will continue, as people don't watch continuing dramas as much as they used to. With the ability to download and binge-watch any show, it can be damaging. But also, I think big series have lost their way in terms of writing."
Rosie continued, "It's sad that people aren't given the chance to hone their craft or learn from their peers. The industry is saturated, and I recently auditioned for a role on Netflix, and there were 6000 other people vying for the same role. It's a constantly changing industry, and I think people have fought against it too much. They need to embrace the change. If we want to save shows like Emmerdale, Casualty, or EastEnders, we have to be more creative than ever before."
