Family memorializes late relative with silicon statue displayed in home.
In the city of Berhampur, a family is trying to cope with the loss of their beloved wife and mother, who tragically passed away during the COVID pandemic. In an attempt to fill the void of her absence, they have placed a lifelike silicon statue of her in their living room. The statue depicts Kiran, the late wife of businessman Prashant Kumar Nayak, sitting on a sofa in a traditional saree and adorned with beautiful gold ornaments. It was installed earlier this year, just before the marriage of their eldest daughter.

It is the deceased woman's younger daughter, Mehak, who takes care of the statue by meticulously changing its saree and ornaments on a regular basis. When asked about the statue, Prashant emotionally shares, "The killer COVID snatched my wife away from us, but whenever I look at this statue, I feel like she is still with us. She was always my inspiration when she was alive." Prashant and Kiran had been married since 1997 and have three children together, two daughters, and a son. After Kiran's untimely passing on April 25, 2021, the children expressed their desire to have a statue of their mother in the house so that they could still feel her presence. Prashant quickly agreed and asked his daughters to contact a sculptor.

The family then contacted a sculptor from Bangalore, who spent a year creating the exact likeness of Kiran using different materials such as fibre, rubber, and silicon. The entire process cost them around Rs 8 lakh, including transportation expenses. The statue was installed before the marriage of their eldest daughter, so that their relatives could also feel Kiran's presence during the wedding. Mehak explains that they provided the sculptor with several photographs to ensure the statue's accuracy and even traveled to Bangalore twice to consult with him through video calls.

Now, with the statue in their home, the family feels a constant presence of their beloved mother. Mehak shares, "After the installation of the statue, it's like our mother is always with us. We can feel her love and guidance all the time." The statue has become a symbol of their love and a way to keep their mother's memory alive. Even though they cannot bring her back, this lifelike statue brings them a sense of comfort and solace in their time of grief.
