Explore the lush greenery of the UK countryside this summer instead of the beach.
After years of camping holidays and never fully appreciating the beauty of the UK, I can now look back and understand why my parents chose to stay in the country instead of travelling abroad. As a kid I always questioned why I couldn’t go somewhere hot for our family holidays, but it wasn’t until I was in my late twenties that I really started to appreciate the beauty of the UK.

The classic British tradition of packing Speedos and heading to the seaside is a popular choice for many, but the staycation trend has increased the opportunities to explore different parts of the country. Instead of an overpriced ice cream, you could be looking for a woodland adventure.

For years I questioned why I was wandering up a big hill or in a pencil factory in the middle of nowhere while my other school friends were getting a tan abroad. But now, after initially feeling like this part of my life was over, I am ready to explore the beauty spots of the UK and embrace whatever the seasons throw at me. There are lots of wonderful places to visit, and if you are lucky enough to live close by you may already know the joy of a countryside adventure.

Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about bringing muddy hiking boots into your tent. There are a range of bougie lodges, luxury treehouses and glamping sites that give you the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the sunshine and the fresh air away from the city, but also have a luxurious stay.

A day of walking in the hills followed by a barbecue and a dip in the hot tub sounds much better than a crowded beach. And, after the last few years of travel restrictions, it has become easier to find spots in the UK which are more accessible than ever. This has led to an increase in luxury camping sites, which are perfect for a getaway.

During my first venture to the south, I stayed at the Chiltern View Lodge and was blown away by the picturesque views of the Chiltern Hills. The secluded lodges were incredibly comfortable, with a main bedroom looking out onto the countryside, a small kitchen, and the icing on the cake – an outdoor hot tub.

Sometimes you just need to hang out in a hammock and enjoy the fresh air, and the cabins have just the right amenities to make the most of the countryside bliss. I had the chance to explore the local pubs and take in the stunning views, but also just relax in the hammock.

While it’s great to come back to the capital, I miss the serenity of the countryside and the freedom of being able to wander without constantly having to battle for a seat on the train.

The idea of the packed beach isn’t as appealing as it sounds. You can have the best of both worlds, enjoying the sunshine and being in total seclusion, so why not avoid the beaches and head to the hills? With an abundance of quirky and unique accommodation, you can have a luxury stay with incredible views and the perfect escape.
