As the football season comes to a close, many fans and experts are discussing potential transfers and signings for their favorite teams. One player that has caught the attention of former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe is Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. After another impressive season with Palace, Sharpe believes that Olise would be the perfect addition to the United squad this summer.
While United has had some success with young players like Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, their attack has struggled overall. Antony had a disappointing season, and star player Marcus Rashford only managed eight goals compared to his impressive 30 from the previous campaign. It is no secret that United is looking to bolster their attacking options, and Sharpe believes that Olise could be the solution.
Olise has been on United's radar for some time, and it is believed that he is one of the top targets for the new regime led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. The 22-year-old almost joined Chelsea last summer, but ultimately signed a new contract with Palace that includes a release clause. While other teams like Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in Olise, Sharpe believes that he is the perfect fit for United's wide options.
"I certainly think he is the kind of player that United could do with," Sharpe stated in an exclusive interview with The Agency via 1337 Games. "As much as he is a creative ballplayer and creates chances, he also does his fair share of working back and doesn't give the ball away very cheaply, so I think he suits what every club is looking for, let alone Man United. But he's certainly exciting, he can score goals, and he's exactly what they need."
With Olise at the top of their wish list, United is also considering other moves this summer. While most of their squad is up for sale, the club is not actively seeking offers for Rashford. However, if the right opportunity presents itself and the player expresses interest, a transfer could be possible. Despite a difficult season, Sharpe believes that a break from football and a strong preseason could help Rashford rediscover his top form.
"I think it could well do Rashford the world of good being left out of The Euros," Sharpe explained. "I think a rest, stay at home and what the Euros brings with the furore of the fans around the country, I think it will really make him miss it and not be part of the squad. I think the rest will also do him the world of good to get some time away from football and to come back and have a great pre-season, all guns blazing, fit as a fiddle and raring to go. I think we will see a different Marcus Rashford next season because he has tonnes of ability and for some reason, it just hasn't happened this season."
