Emma Corrin recreates Diana's final days in the first look of The Crown season 6.
Elizabeth Debicki has previously expressed how 'devastating' it was to play Princess Diana in the sixth and final season of The Crown. Ahead of the series' release, Netflix has teased a slew of first-look images of the iconic royal.

One such image shows Diana, played by Debicki, on a yacht belonging to Salim Daw's business tycoon Mohamed Al Fayed. Al Fayed had invited Diana and her sons to holiday with him on the Al Fayed yacht alongside his film producer son Dodi, where they were followed by the paparazzi.

Other images include a sombre Al Fayed in an armchair, Diana in the sunshine with William and Harry, played by Fflyn Edwards, and the Princess in a car with Fayed. The two princes are also featured alongside their father in another preview image, who is wearing a dark green kilt ensemble and holding a shepherd’s crook.

Speaking in April, Debicki reflected on the challenge of playing Diana: “I think it’s a really unique challenge as an actor, to portray those days. I really just trusted in Peter’s emotional blueprint that he created for us to follow. It’s his interpretation and I think it made emotional sense to me, so I clung to that. Because, obviously, it’s devastating and it’s fraught and we can never know.”

The series will also explore the blossoming romance between Al Fayed’s son and Diana, as well as recreate Princess Diana’s final days before her death. It has been met with backlash, including the decision to show ‘distressing’ scenes related to the fatal Paris crash that killed her in 1997. It is also been claimed that she will reappear as a ghost in later scenes during which she will have an emotional reconciliation with a grieving Charles, whom she tells how ‘handsome’ he is and how much she loved him as he weeps with regret.

Imelda Staunton will also be returning as Queen Elizabeth II, who admitted she felt ‘more comfortable’ playing the late monarch in season 6. She said: “I’ve been living with her for a long time so, if anything, I felt more comfortable this time. I love her stillness and her ability to not be thrown by everything that must have constantly – throughout her whole life – gone on around her.”

Dominic reprises his role as King Charles in the hit Netflix drama, with the actor saying Charles has a real ‘sadness and compassion’ about him. He added: “What’s great about The Crown is that you see these public figures in private. I suspect in private he’s quite emotional, well that’s the way I played him anyway… I think, hopefully, what comes out is compassionate but relatively well balanced.”

The Crown season 6 part 1 premieres on Netflix on November 16, while part 2 will be available from December 14.
