A man from Perth has found himself in hot water after being accused of a violent crime against an elderly man. It all started when 89-year-old Ken and his wife returned home from a lovely lunch outing. Little did they know that their peaceful afternoon would soon turn into a terrifying ordeal.
As they pulled into their driveway in Armadale around 2:35pm on Tuesday, they were approached by a stranger. This 32-year-old man allegedly pulled Ken out of his car, pushed him to the ground, and then drove off in his Mercedes. It was a shocking and traumatic experience for Ken, who shared his harrowing story with 9News.
"I tried to fight him off and even opened the car door multiple times, but it was no use. He was much younger and stronger than me," Ken recounted. The attack left him with a bruised hip and grazed wrist, while his wife was left feeling too afraid to even sleep in their own home.
Meanwhile, just 10 minutes prior to this incident, a man in his 70s was approached outside his home on Dawson Street. The same 32-year-old man allegedly stole his mobile phone after a heated exchange. The police were able to locate the stolen car and the suspect in Gosnells the following day.
"I'm relieved that he has been caught and will hopefully face justice for his actions," Ken shared with the news station. The 32-year-old man from Saint James has been charged with several offenses including aggravated robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, and attempted home burglary.
Thankfully, the suspect was apprehended and was set to appear in court on Thursday. Ken and his wife can now rest a little easier knowing that the perpetrator has been taken off the streets.
