Driver killed two brothers in 92mph crash, then went to get a burger.
The Nahar family has experienced a horrendous tragedy - two young brothers were killed in a hit-and-run crash that happened while their mother, Arithi Nahar, was taking them home for tea. The driver, Mohammed Sullaiman Khan, had reached speeds of 92mph in a 40mph zone before he lost control of the car and drove through a red light, ploughing into the family's BMW. The force of the crash pushed the car into metal railings, killing Sanjay Singh, 10, and 23-month-old Pawanveer instantly.

Rather than stopping to help the family, Khan drove away and was caught on a burger bar's CCTV cameras waiting for food less than two hours later. Arithi said, “My house, my life and I died on that tragic day.” The tragedy happened on March 14, 2019 on Birmingham New Road in Wolverhampton.

Khan and his brother Mohammed Asim Khan both attempted to cover up the crash when he phoned police to say his brother's car had been stolen in a car key burglary earlier that day. Khan has now been jailed for 11 years for causing Sanjay and Pawanveer's deaths by dangerous driving, while Mohammed Asim Khan has been given an 18-month jail term, suspended for two years, after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

In a victim statement to the court, Arithi said, “My sons gave me joy and gave me the reason and purpose to get up each day and want to provide them with love and gifts all the time. Since the boys passed away I can only hold on to the memories and look at photos and their videos to feel their precious times we had together. Sanjay and Pawanveer had their own strong bond and relationship between them which was magical. Sanjay would sing songs and nursery rhymes to his younger brother and I would hear the laughter and fun that the boys had between them and both constantly wanted mine and dad's attention. My family and family friends were there for me which gave me the encouragement and strength to take each day at a time.”

Detective Constable Karl Davies said, “It is awful, almost beyond words, for two young brothers to be killed in such a dreadful collision. Our duty was to Sanjay and Pawanveer and to their family, who have been so brave throughout.”

The Nahar family has been left devastated by this tragedy, and it is hoped that the jail sentences handed to Khan and his brother provide some sense of justice for the family.
