UK sales data shows that BioWare's recent resurgence is decent but not groundbreaking.

Dragon Age's Veilguard had poor UK sales, falling behind even Star Wars Outlaws.
After a decade-long wait, Dragon Age has finally made its return. BioWare's latest release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, may not have rocked the gaming world, but it certainly wasn't a complete disaster either, according to sales data from the UK.

For BioWare, this is their first new game since the infamous flop of Anthem in 2019. The reception for Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been mostly positive in comparison, but considering it has been 10 years since the previous installment, Dragon Age: Inquisition, it's unclear if there is still a strong demand for the Dragon Age franchise.

Upon its release on October 31, Dragon Age: The Veilguard saw a strong start on Steam, topping the charts and breaking BioWare's peak concurrent player records. However, initial sales in the UK have not been as impressive. As discussed on the GamesIndustry.biz podcast, physical sales for the game are said to be similar to those of Dragon's Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Christopher Dring, head of the outlet, further explained that the sales may be slightly lower than that of Star Wars Outlaws, a recent underperforming title from Ubisoft. However, he also noted that these numbers are not necessarily a cause for concern, as they are still within the usual range for Star Wars video games.

"It's hard to know what EA's expectations were, but it seems fine," Dring commented when asked about the sales for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. "It's not earth-shattering, but it isn't terrible."

Speaking of other new releases, Mario & Luigi: Brothership managed to secure the third spot on the UK physical chart. However, its launch sales were 23% lower than last year's Super Mario RPG remake and 29% lower than this year's Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. While physical sales do provide some insight into a game's success, the majority of sales today are digital, so we'll have to wait for those figures to get a clearer picture.

On a positive note, Dring also mentioned that Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 has now become the third best-selling game of the year, behind only EA Sports FC 25 and EA Sports FC 24. And for Nintendo fans, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is their last big release of the year.
