Shannon Sharpe recently had the pleasure of interviewing hip-hop DJ and producer, DJ Khaled, on his podcast, Club Shay Shay. During the episode, Khaled discussed why he chooses to handle his financial affairs without a money manager or accountant.
"I don't trust other people with my money," Khaled told Sharpe. "I'm the one who makes sure everything is paid, including the mortgage, the car note, and even the barber." Khaled then went on to explain his process for keeping track of his finances.
"I have a rule," he said. "If you pay for everything yourself, you notice you're paying too much for stuff, right? The balance has to always stay like that, so if I touch that, that means it has to be replaced that hour, no more than two weeks, right? That's just a rule in my life. That way, if I'm paying all these bills, travel, vacation, my mom's bills, my house bills, you know, shopping, the chef, the kids, I can know if I should take some gigs or whatever else is needed to keep my money where it needs to be, without having to hear it from someone else."
Khaled is a man of many talents and he definitely knows how to take care of himself. He made it clear that he has no problem taking care of everybody around him, but he also has to make sure that he is kept away from any chances of someone stealing money from him.
"We could talk all this big business manager," Khaled said, "but I've heard a lot of crazy stories, right, and there's no way in the world I'm letting somebody have the power to touch the hard work, no way."
DJ Khaled is all about his money, but he is also very mindful of keeping it. It's clear that he takes his financial matters into his own hands and applies a great deal of caution. His approach to money management is a great example for others to follow.
