DJ Kay Slay to be honored with a street renaming ceremony in East Harlem.
More than a year after his death, DJ Kay Slay is being honored with a street renamed in his honor. On Aug. 13, 2023, East 105th Street and 1st Avenue in East Harlem will be officially renamed after Keith Grayson, also known as the legendary DJ Kay Slay. A ceremony to commemorate the occasion will be held at 11 AM and hosted by Papoose, Jarrod “General” Whitaker, and LAdi Kutz.

The date was chosen to mark what would have been the late Hot 97 DJ's 57th birthday. Many of his famous friends are expected to be in attendance, including 50 Cent, Remy Ma, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Tony Yayo, Uncle Murder, and Mysonne.

Kay Slay was a former New York City graffiti artist and recording artist who made a name for himself as a DJ. Unfortunately, he fell ill with COVID-19 in late 2021 and passed away on April 17, 2022, after four months of battling the virus.

His funeral was held at The World Famous Apollo Theater on April 24, 2022. Papoose, Busta Rhymes, and Melle Mel all spoke at the ceremony to honor their dear friend.

Kay Slay was also known for the many mixtapes he put out, with the most successful being The Streetsweeper, Vol. 1. It peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and featured Nas, Eminem, Wyclef Jean, N.O.R.E., Bun B, Foxy Brown, and The L.O.X. His last album was The Soul Controller, which was released on Dec. 17, 2021. Kay Slay was also the owner of Straight Stuntin’ Magazine.

Kwame Grayson, the late DJ's brother, posted a Facebook flyer sharing the news that a street will be named after Kay Slay. The post said their mother was "speechless" and feeling proud.

It's clear that the legacy of DJ Kay Slay will live on for years to come. The street renaming ceremony in East Harlem is a testament to the impact he had on the hip-hop community and will serve as a reminder of the incredible music he created.
