After much speculation, Ubisoft has finally confirmed that they are indeed working on The Division 3. In a lowkey announcement, they revealed that Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty has been chosen as executive producer of the entire The Division brand. The studio also mentioned that they have started building a team for the game.
It looks like we will still have to wait a few years before the game is released. The Division 3 is still in its early stages of development and the team is only just being built. Meanwhile, Massive Entertainment, the developer of the game, is already working on two other projects, Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, which are due out in December and sometime next year respectively.
Although The Division 2 didn't perform as well as Ubisoft had hoped, it still sold over 10 million copies. This is likely the reason why Ubisoft is going ahead with The Division 3 despite its predecessor's performance. Whether the third game will be different from the first two in some way is yet to be seen.
The clues to the possible changes in the game could be found in The Division Heartland, the live service take on the franchise. We will have to wait a few years to find out what The Division 3 has in store for us.
