Disney Dreamers discuss entrepreneurship and giving back to the community.
The magical annual event known as the Disney Dreamers Academy for the year 2024 was held in the sunny city of Orlando, Florida from April 3rd to April 7th. It was a highly coveted opportunity for thousands of ambitious students between the ages of 14 and 18 to apply for, but only 100 were chosen. These lucky individuals were selected based on their outstanding character, drive, and initiative. Each one of them had big dreams and were actively taking steps towards making them a reality.

Disney's commitment to supporting diverse communities was at the forefront of this incredible program, as it aimed to inspire the next generation to dream big and think outside the box. The 100 chosen Dreamers had unique backgrounds and resumes, showcasing their philanthropic work, artistic talents, and business acumen. Over the course of five days, they were treated to hands-on workshops tailored to their interests, exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at Disney operations, and the opportunity to learn from celebrity mentors and guest speakers.

As an advocate for uplifting and amplifying the voices of youth, BLACK ENTERPRISE had the pleasure of speaking with some of the exceptional young leaders of today and tomorrow at the Disney Dreamers Academy. Noelle Nelson, a 2024 Disney Dreamer, shared her experience as the founder of a non-profit organization called Best Buddies Wear Teal & Red, which works towards raising awareness for allergies. She also sits on a board of directors and has gained valuable insights into the world of business through these experiences.

Another 2024 Disney Dreamer, Jayden Watkins, is the CEO of Higher Is Waiting, a mentorship program for teenagers in her community. She has big plans for the future, including a book bag giveaway and a youth explosion event. Teaming up with No Kid Hungry, she has also been given the title of "Hunger Hero" for her efforts in raising money and awareness for child hunger. On top of all this, she runs her own business, Tiger Mushroom Farms, and manages to balance it all while completing her high school education.

Lola Obasade, a 2024 Disney Dreamer, has a passion for early reading and has started her own initiative to encourage children to read. She plans to pursue a career in neuroscience and wants to become a CEO one day. Even while in college, she hopes to continue her reading initiative and encourage her classmates to get involved. She encourages other children to follow their dreams and make a difference in the world.

Christiana Blankson, a 2024 Disney Dreamer, is a young entrepreneur who started her own catering company, Ana Mission, out of her love for making and eating breakfast tacos. She also sells her cookies in her school cafeteria, with proceeds going towards helping children in Ghana. She has also started a group called Black Girl Unity, which aims to support and empower young Black girls.

The Disney Dreamers Academy was not just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young leaders, but it also served as a platform for them to showcase their talents and passions. Each one of them is determined to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. As we continue to uplift and support the next generation, it is clear that the future of Black business is in good hands.
