After eight years, Disney Channel has announced that its longest-running live-action series Bunk'd has come to a close. The show, a spin-off of Jessie, first aired in 2015 and has been a huge hit with viewers, ranking among the top 10 series for children aged six to 11 across linear and streaming platforms.
The remaining and final ten episodes of Bunk'd will air next year, and will follow the adventures of campers and counselors at a summer camp in Maine's rustic Camp Kikiwaka. Peyton List and Skai Jackson have been among the show's cast. While the news has been met with some disappointment, some fans have expressed relief that the show is concluding, with The 789 Guy writing: “The later seasons of Bunk’d didn’t feel like it was a spin-off of Jessie; it became a generic summer camp show.”
Confirming the cancellation to Deadline, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television said: “With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest-running and successful live action series. We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons.”
The news comes as TV commissioners reflect on the past year, with a number of other shows being put on the chopping block. UK comedian Iain Stirling has been particularly unlucky, with both gameshow CelebAbility and comedy Buffering being axed. Meanwhile, Mo Gilligan’s shows The Lateish Show and gameshow That’s My Jam were both recently taken off air, while Channel 4 fans were left devastated when Steph’s Packed Lunch aired for the final time.
Despite the cancellation, Bunk'd is still available to stream on Disney Plus. Fans can continue to follow the show to the end and watch the remaining episodes when they air next year.
