Diddy has a vision to join forces with Tyler Perry and Byron Allen to create the most powerful media company.
Sean "Diddy" Combs was on a mission to restore Black Entertainment Television (BET) to Black ownership. When Paramount announced they were ready to sell a majority stake in BET, Diddy, Byron Allen, and Tyler Perry, along with other notable businessmen, were ready to seize the opportunity. Unfortunately, after weeks of negotiations and speculation, the company decided to hold on to the brand instead.

In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Diddy expressed his desire to collaborate with the people he was competing against for the acquisition of BET. He said he wanted to make Black ownership more meaningful, and a collective effort from himself, Perry, and Allen could set the perfect example. His main goal is to build a Black-owned media conglomerate, and he believes BET is the originator of Black media and still holds its power. Diddy also shared a piece of advice many have said for years: even Black-owned companies need to answer to someone white in some capacity.

When asked about diversity, Diddy had a strong stance. “It’s all a bunch of bull**it,” he said. “Diversity isn’t about inclusion; diversity is about sharing power. And nothing has changed. It’s gotten worse. We have some representation … Shout out and all due respect to everybody that’s in power. But [for most people], there’s still somebody over them, a white man that they have to get permission from to do something. And it’s always been the same, no matter what the industry.”

Diddy has been busy lately. Not only was he honored at the MTV Music Awards, but he is also preparing for the Revolt World conference later this month in Atlanta. He is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his Revolt TV network and the 30th anniversary of Bad Boy Entertainment.
