Delhi CM Kejriwal wants Supreme Court to urgently consider plea for extending interim bail due to medical reasons.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is seeking urgent action from the Supreme Court on his request for an extension of his interim bail for seven days. Kejriwal needs this time to undergo some important medical tests.

During a hearing on Tuesday, a bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan acknowledged the plea made by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who was representing the chief minister. The bench noted that the decision on whether to list the interim plea could be made by the "Honorable CJI" as the main matter has already reserved judgement.

The bench then asked Singhvi why the matter was not brought up for urgent listing last week when Justice Dipankar Datta, one of the judges on the main bench that had granted interim bail to Kejriwal, was sitting on the vacation bench.

In his plea, Kejriwal has requested an extension of his interim bail by seven days to undergo various medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. This is because of his sudden and unexplained weight loss and high ketone levels, which could be indicative of serious health issues such as kidney problems, cardiac ailments, or even cancer.

Kejriwal's fresh plea was filed on May 26, and he has stated that he will surrender to jail authorities on June 9 instead of the previously scheduled date of June 2.

The Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal 21 days of interim bail on May 10, allowing him to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls. It had also directed him to surrender on June 2, a day after the seventh phase of the elections.

The case pertains to allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.
