Storied investigative journalist Deborah Roberts is now officially a part of ABC News' 26-year-long news series, 20/20. She joins the ranks of celebrated names like Diane Sawyer, Connie Chung, and Hugh Downs, and ABC News President Kim Godwin couldn't be more pleased.
Godwin commended Roberts for her "skilled investigative journalism" and for her ability to "bring humanity to every story." Her new co-anchor, David Muir, also expressed his excitement to "stand beside her on 20/20."
The 63-year-old journalist has been a part of the ABC team since 1995, when Roberts was recruited by her mentor and news icon, Barbara Walters. Roberts has since worked across multiple ABC programs, including Good Morning America and The View.
In 2021, she received yet another accolade - a prestigious Peabody Award - for her work on the 20/20 special, Say Her Name: Breonna Taylor.
Godwin described Roberts as "one of a kind," noting that she brings "heart, authority, and integrity to every story she covers." Roberts believes that this new appointment gives her the opportunity to have "more of a say" in what 20/20 stands for.
Meanwhile, former 20/20 co-anchor Amy Robach left ABC after a publicized affair with her GMA3 co-host TJ Holmes, and will continue reporting on other shows. Roberts has been married to beloved Today Show host Al Roker since 1995.
