David Raya is excited to become a part of Arsenal's goalkeeping union after joining the team on a season-long loan from Brentford. The 27-year-old is now competing with Aaron Ramsdale for the number one spot.
Ramsdale has been inspiring under Mikel Arteta's management and recently put on a great performance in the Community Shield victory against Manchester City. Arteta, however, wants more competition in the squad, and so Matt Turner's move to Nottingham Forest has given Raya the chance he was hoping for.

"I can't wait to be out there training with the lads and getting that GK union going," he said. "That's a tight group that we're always going to get along and push each other, so that's going to be a healthy group in my opinion. I just can't wait to get going and meet the lads."
He also commented on the need to get used to the style and patterns, and to know the players and staff quickly in order to form a bond.
Raya has an advantage in that he has worked with Arsenal's goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana before, during their time in West London. He is full of praise for Cana saying, "Inaki is very demanding but he's a very good goalie coach. He's always onto you but he only wants you to be the best. I felt so much better when I started training with him and in the space of six months, he changed my vision of a goalkeeper and the way I played back at Blackburn to how I played at Brentford. He was the first one to change my mindset to see different aspects of goalkeeping."
Raya is looking forward to the journey ahead of him at Arsenal and is determined to make the most of the opportunity.
