Cyclone Remal is expected to bring heavy rain to four districts in Odisha, and officials have reviewed preparations for the potential impact.
The Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in four districts of Odisha as Cyclone Remal approaches the coast. The forecast predicts a downpour of 7 to 11 cm in Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj districts due to the cyclone's impact.

The Special Relief Commissioner, Satyabrata Sahu, has taken charge of reviewing the preparations made by the district collectors in response to the warning. An estimated 20,000 fishing boats have been safely docked, and the collectors have been advised to utilize the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and fire services in case of any emergency, according to officials.

Sahu has stated that the coastal districts of Odisha have already started experiencing rainfall since this morning, which is expected to intensify as the cyclone reaches landfall by midnight. In light of this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised local cautionary signal number 3 at Paradip and Chandbali ports, and distant warning signal number 2 at Gopalpur and Puri ports.

The Met department has reported that Cyclone Remal has now progressed into a severe cyclonic storm and is likely to make landfall in Bangladesh and West Bengal by Sunday midnight, with winds of 110-120 kmph and gusts of up to 135 kmph. The storm, moving towards the north, is expected to gain strength before crossing the coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara, near the southwest of Mongla port, around midnight on Sunday.

According to the IMD, surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph will be prevalent in some areas of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur until 8.30 am on Monday. Along with this, squally wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, are expected to continue until Monday morning, as stated in an IMD bulletin.
