After three years, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally here, and one reader decided to give it a chance on their PS4 Pro. Despite low expectations, the reader has found it to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience. After only six or seven hours, the reader has explored some of the city on foot and completed some side quests.
The graphics are better than expected and the game runs mostly smoothly, with the odd glitch, slow down, pop-in, and frame drop. Despite the lower population on the streets and less traffic than something like GTA 5, the non-player character count is still immersive enough. The reader has also found the characters enjoyable, and the gunplay better than average.
The reader is still getting used to the different role-playing systems within the game, but they are explained organically as the reader progresses. The ambition to make the game truly open world is admirable, and the reader would compare it to the Deus Ex series with much more in the way of role-playing elements. They can’t give it a score yet, but initial thoughts would be an 8 or 9 if the quality is retained.
The reader is loathe to give CD Projekt Red too much credit, as they knowingly launched the last gen versions in a terrible state and hid that fact from reviewers/players. However, they did put a wrong right, so partial credit for that. The reader would recommend giving the game a go if you can get it at a decent price, especially if you have a PS4 Pro.
