Veterinarians Drs. Vernard Hodges and Terrence Ferguson are on a mission to help emerging vets start their own businesses. To that end, they are partnering with PetSmart to open a new animal hospital in Smyrna, Georgia. Located inside PetSmart on 2540 Cumberland Blvd. SE., the clinic is co-owned by Dr. Paul Norwood, a graduate of Tuskegee University, who will serve as the primary veterinarian.

Dr. Terrance Ferguson is confident in Norwood’s expertise. “We wouldn’t team up with someone we don’t know,” he said. “We have to be sure they will treat people and pets the same way we do.”

The new hospital will be celebrated with a grand opening event on Sat., June 17th from 11am to 4pm. The first 50 attendees will receive a $10 gift card and the first 25 pets will receive a free dental exam.

In addition, Hodges and Ferguson will open another hospital at the PetSmart in Warner Robins, Georgia. Dr. Clarissa Porter will be the head veterinarian of the clinic, which is expected to open in September 2023. Porter is no stranger to the animal healthcare field, having worked as a technician at the Critter Fixers hospital.

The two doctors have gained recognition due to their reality show Critter Fixers: Country Vets, which has aired on the National Geographic Network and The Disney Channel for five seasons. The show documents their daily activities as they care for household pets, farm animals, and reptiles. It has even won a Critics Choice Award for Best Animal/Nature Show in 2022.
