A pastor and his wife were tragically shot dead only a week after they had married. The pair were found with gunshot wounds outside a home on the 12000 block of Summit Circle Run near West Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday morning.
A woman outside the home identified the female victim as her 45-year-old sister. She shared the couple's wedding photo, in which they both wore blue and smiled, and said her sister had never been as happy as she was now.
The woman said her sister was from Haiti and was training to be a nurse practitioner, while her husband was a pastor. Three of her sister's children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, as well as an adult who witnessed the incident.
Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after 8.30am, according to Palm Beach Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera. A neighbor, Dicter Pineda, heard what sounded like gunshots but thought it was someone working on a roof, and only realized what had happened upon returning outside.
Another neighbor expressed shock, saying it was a quiet area and they don't usually have many things happen. Deanne Germeil, who went to the same church as the victims, said she couldn't understand how this had happened.
Detectives interviewed and arrested Sony Josaphat as a person of interest. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made his initial court appearance on Sunday morning, being held without bond at Palm Beach County Jail.
