Corruption is a thorn in the side of social development

Corruption is a thorn in the side of social development. “Oh my god, I just had to do the documentation for a site that I took out of debt.” If one person says that it cost a lot of money, and that without bribery, one cannot do business, then another person will accept the report of a bribe taken to pay widow's pension to his grandmother. "Sir, my pension file is not yet cleared, so I have to pay money to the government," says another, a retired government employee. On the one hand, there is a person who was cheated in the lottery business, on the other hand, there is a flood of breaking news about people who illegally acquired lakhs of rupees in property and gold and fell into the trap of the Lokayukta, on the other hand, there is a bribe to make an asset account, a bribe to give seats to children in prestigious schools. Thus, everyone has experienced various faces of corruption at every level and in every office. "There is no green leaf that is not touched by the goat, just like there is no field where corruption is not present. This is not only in our country, corruption is rampant all over the world.

This is International Anti-Corruption Day, established on 31 October 2003, following the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). It has been observed every year on 9 December since 2005. Its main objective is to raise awareness about corruption and to promote the fight against it.

Corruption is the “abuse of power for personal gain,” which includes unethical and illegal activities such as bribery, fraud, and nepotism. In the public sector, a common example is when government officials and representatives use their power to violate the rules and obtain undue benefits or advantages. Corruption is not limited to financial gain, it also includes power and influence.

Power is only as good as ethics. When we hear the famous saying, “A tongue without ethics, let your wicked mind be free from your tongue,” a person’s personality begins with his words and is reflected in his behavior. Any corrupt official will show a low mentality in his power. “A house of wickedness is like a house of wickedness.” They discriminate against individuals, harass their subordinates, have one rule for themselves and another for others, and use the power they have gained as they please. Many innocent hearts are crushed in the hands of people with such personalities. Some do not have the courage to face it. When some others are ready to face it, the consequences are severe. Alas, the situation worsens to the point where we wonder if we needed this. When we look at the recent ATM robbery case, it is truly unbelievable to hear that the thief and the policeman were under the same roof, that is, the mastermind of this robbery. Many such cases continue to happen every day. Some come to light, and many more cases are forgotten. But corruption continues to happen. It makes sense that illiterate people do not know the lesson of etiquette and behavior. But if a literate, knowledgeable employee or official becomes corrupt, the entire society can lose its existence. Isn’t this like “grazing the field by climbing over a fence”?

The various forms of corruption are as follows. * Demanding or receiving bribes and gifts. * Nepotism, which is providing special privileges to relatives or friends at the expense of others.

* Fraud: Obtaining financial gain by forging bills or providing false information.

* Extortion: Using threats or force to obtain money or other benefits.

* Money laundering: Trying to make money obtained illegally appear to be of legitimate origin.

* Misappropriation: Misuse of public funds or abuse of power. If we keep saying this, the list of corruption will go on and on.
