Coleen Rooney is set to reveal her side of the story in the upcoming three-part Disney+ series, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story. The documentary will detail the infamous Wagatha Christie trial, a libel case that began in 2019 and concluded last summer.
Coleen and her husband Wayne Rooney were both embroiled in the legal battle against Rebekah Vardy, who ended up losing the case. The docuseries will follow the drama as it unfolded and will feature Coleen breaking down in tears in one scene.
According to The Mirror, Coleen said: “He just looked at me and said ‘Coleen you’re just not you anymore, you just look sick.’ It was just constantly on my mind, I couldn’t get away from it.”
Her husband Wayne also revealed his concerns over the toll the trial was taking on her health. Coleen was also seen expressing her fears to her legal team, saying: “There’s not a lot I can do unless I back down is there? We didn’t have the evidence. I was gutted, in a legal battle she would win.”
Disney+ recently unveiled the first look at Coleen in the documentary, with two pictures showing her in a smart black suit with her golden brown hair half up, looking into the distance as she sits inside a courtroom. The docuseries will also look at the circumstances around Coleen's viral social media post in which she famously accused Rebekah of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the press. Coleen revealed she didn’t draft it beforehand on her Notes app, instead preferring the old-fashioned method.
Speaking to British Vogue, she said: “I like a pen and paper – a pencil and rubber, actually, so I can rub it out. So I started writing what I wanted to say and then the next morning I put it out there. That was the start of something that I would never have expected.” Coleen also revealed that nobody – not even husband Wayne or her family – knew what she was about to do at the time.
Interestingly, ‘Wagatha Christie’ was the initial rumoured title of the series, however, Rebekah Vardy won rights of the phrase and Disney+ had to find a loophole for it. So now, if the phrase is used commercially, Rebekah will have to give her permission first and ask for payment if she allows it.
