Madikeri, Sep. 26: A new trend called ‘coffee experience’ has started. In many cafes, information such as where the coffee powder and seeds come from, how it was grown, and the methods used to produce it are displayed in front of the customers.
Due to this, customers are not only drinking coffee, but also experiencing it.
If coffee is promoted in this way, the coffee industry can be run well.
It is essential for growers and coffee entrepreneurs to come together for this new coffee experience trend, advised Dr. Aichettira Mandappa, Director, Coffee Quality Department, Bangalore Coffee Board.
Speaking at a lecture organized at Gandhi Maidan on the occasion of Coffee Dasara on September 24, he said that the new generation of ‘Gen Alpha’ youth are now involved in coffee parties instead of liquor parties.
They wake up in the morning and dance to the music of the DJ and drink coffee.
Instead of the liquor bar that used to be in many homes, many people are now interested in the idea of a coffee bar, displaying various coffee varieties and forms of coffee and getting the full experience. He said that this can be utilized well and the coffee industry can be developed.
Attention given after harvesting is very important
It is not enough to pay attention only to the coffee harvest. If several processing steps are followed to introduce it in the market after the coffee is harvested, it will get a better price.
Growers should pay attention to these processes. Through this, new types of coffee products can be introduced. These products should be displayed when there are opportunities. He said that through this, there will be a demand for such new coffee products in the market.
Along with Robusta and Arabica, there are also Liberia, Excelsa and Mara coffee varieties. The Excelsa variety from Kodagu has gained fame in Japan.
He said that Mara coffee also has a market and should not be ignored. Training on the coffee industry is being provided at the Coffee Board in Bangalore.
"Take advantage of this," he said on this occasion.
