Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared 2,792 unauthorised colonies legal during an event at Shaheed Smarak in Gol Bazar, Jabalpur. At this event, he also launched Anugya and Su-Raj Colony schemes and distributed benefits of various government schemes to the poor.
Chouhan also gave approval for building and infrastructure development in these colonies. He declared that 23,000 acres of land freed from land shirks and encroachers will be used to build houses for the poor in Su-Raj colonies. He further added that criminals and land shirks will not be spared and all facilities will be available in Su-Raj colonies.
This legalisation of the colonies will benefit around 3.5 million people. People who have bought plots in unauthorised colonies built till December 31, 2016 will be given permission for development of infrastructure and building construction. The laws for unauthorised colonies were brought in 2021 and implemented last year.
As many as 8,013 unauthorised colonies have been identified in cities. After the completion of the campaign, more than 8 million people will benefit from it. Out of the 7,010 colonies that have been published, the layout of 3,863 colonies has been published and building construction permission has been given to 871 colonies under six municipal corporations.
Overall, this legalisation of colonies will help a large number of people to get access to basic facilities and amenities. It is a great step taken by the state government to ensure that people in unauthorised colonies have the same access to the resources as other citizens.
