Clearing of non Kannada name boards

Kudige, July. 1; Kodagu District Kannada Sahitya parishad has declared that they condemn the use of large non Kannada name boards by shop keepers at state highways at the KDP meeting recently. In this backdrop, the ZP CEO has instructed the respective Grama Panchayat Development Officers to clear the boards. On Monday officials swung in to action, cleared the non Kannada nameplates on Kushalanagar-Madikeri State Highway at Hoskote and Sunthikoppa area. Speaking to reporters Somwarpet taluk panchayat executive officer, Sunil said that the government mandates that the nameplates should be 60 per cent Kannada. 40 percent of the panels can be installed in non Kannada languages, at the bottom. Yet shop owners have adopted non Kannada nameplates on their store front name plates without giving much importance to the Kannada language. Officials of the respective gram panchayats have been notified to clear these and the authorities are already working towards it. Those who violated this rule will lose the permit of the shops.
