Cleaner goes on vacation after being told he can’t by bosses.
After years of hard work and dedication, Paul Spiers, a 63-year-old street cleaner, is finally getting the chance to take a well-deserved vacation. He is currently basking in the warm sun of Portugal, accompanied by his brother Dave, and it is only the second time in his life that he has been able to travel to the Algarve.

Paul has been a beloved member of the community in Beckenham, a town in south east London, since 2017. He has tirelessly cleaned the streets, making sure they are spotless for the residents. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and the community rallied together to raise £3,000 for him through a GoFundMe page. However, his employer, Veolia, had strict rules against employees accepting gifts and unfortunately, Paul was unable to receive the money.

But, as fate would have it, Paul's luck took a turn for the better when he won a £3,000 holiday to his dream destination, Portugal, thanks to On The Beach Holidays. Speaking from his sunny holiday spot, Paul expressed his overwhelming gratitude, saying, "I'm having the time of my life. I can't thank people enough for their support and for what they've done for me. I'm just an ordinary road sweeper doing a job - I can't believe that people would think that much of me. I can't express my thanks enough."

For Paul, this holiday is a once in a lifetime opportunity to soak up the sun and relax. He usually spends his holidays in places like Kent or Great Yarmouth, which he admits are lovely but can't compare to the beauty of Portugal. He is enjoying every moment of his holiday, and he even raised a beer to thank everyone back home for making it possible.

Paul's friend Lisa Knight, who set up the GoFundMe page for him, expressed her joy at seeing Paul finally getting to enjoy his dream holiday. She said, "I'm overjoyed that Paul is finally on a beach enjoying his dream holiday. When I started the fundraising, this is all I wanted to happen. So to know he is in the sunshine enjoying some well-deserved relaxation makes me and, I'm sure, the rest of the UK incredibly happy."

Lisa also extended a special thank you to the generous and supportive community of Beckenham, who came together to make Paul's dream a reality. She believes that their actions are a true testament to the special place that Beckenham is. As for Paul, he is just grateful beyond words for this unexpected opportunity, saying, "I never thought that I'd have another foreign holiday in my lifetime. So this beer is for everyone back home who's helped make this happen - and the next one, too!"
