Claire Danes opened up on the 'brutal' moments she had while filming Full Circle, a HBO Max drama led by a star-studded cast, after coming face-to-face with rats. The 44-year-old, who is expecting her third child with Hugh Dancy, was glowing at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere on Sunday evening.
The drama follows an investigation into a botched kidnapping which 'uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York.' Claire found the shoot quite tough at times, due to all the rats roaming around.
Speaking to The Agency, she recalled having the typical 'New York experience' while the cameras were rolling. She said, "Well, I grew up in New York, blocks away from where I live now. Our campers were parked literally across the street from my home for weeks at a time. So that was very convenient, in terms of the commute!"
"We did have to film in Washington Square Park at night, and I am deeply phobic of rats. I won't even walk like around the perimeter of the park after 5pm, and so to have to be in the center of it at 3am, it was really like exposure therapy or something. It was very challenging."
When it was suggested that it sounded more like a trial from I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, Claire laughed in agreement. She exclaimed, "Yes, exactly. That was brutal."
Her co-star Zazie Beetz shared similar sentiments. She said, "We shot a lot in Washington Square Park and it truly is the city of the rats, and we're just visiting it. We would shoot overnights all the time and the rats were turning up. I would say that was pretty New York. We're in their house, so they're like, 'What are you doing here?'"
Aside from the pesky vermin, the pair also discussed their roles in the upcoming show. Zazie said, "I always just approach it initially from the character, where the character is coming from, what she wants and what her ultimate transformation is... I think my character feels very insecure and lost, and uses a front in order to pretend like she's not. She's very intelligent but can become aggressive because she's very vulnerable."
Claire added, "Nobody works like Steven Soderbergh. He has a completely singular approach. It was great to be in such a new, creative environment and be stretched in that way."
Full Circle premieres on HBO Max in the US on July 13.
