Chris Tucker recently shared an inspiring moment from a Father's Day celebration he hosted in June. The event was sponsored by the organization of television judge veteran Judge Mablean Ephriam.
In the post, Tucker had taken the stage with Donnie McClurkin to perform the gospel standard "Amazing Grace". To the audience's surprise, McClurkin opened the hymn and then passed the mic to Tucker. The actor and comedian then started singing with all his heart. He sang, “Like Meeeee, was blind, but now I see. That’s all I know. Donnie, come get this mic.”
The crowd was cheering for Tucker's effort and candor. Donnie McClurkin wouldn't let the actor off the hook easily. He talked the comedian through the rest of the verse and Tucker continued. Then, Grammy-winning songstress Faith Evans took the mic and effortlessly sang down. After she was done, McClurkin finished the hymn.
The comments section of the post was filled with people appreciating Tucker's performance. One person wrote, “That was Uncle Pastor Donnie, Evangelist Evans, and Deacon Tucker!!” Michelle Williams commented, “You betta sang!!” Shamea Morton from Real Housewives of Atlanta wrote, “Y’all just gave me my whole life.”
Judge Mablean established the Honoring Unsung Fathers Awards 20 years ago. The nonprofit organization has also issued 178 scholarships since its inception and has honored over 100 fathers. Past honorees include Bishop Demetrius Allen, Byron Allen, singer Freddie Jackson and Ron Anderson. In 2023, the honorees were Judge Greg Mathis, Derrick Waters and Bernard Kinsey.
