Neville Jones was sentenced to a lengthy 38-year prison sentence in Durham Crown Court on Friday, after he was found guilty of a range of offences including rape, sexual assault, and sexual activity with a child.
The court heard how Jones had targeted four vulnerable victims, using them as ‘sexual objects’ and subjecting them to horrific abuse. Jones had also given one victim tablets which made them ‘sleepy’. Judge James Adkin said that Jones had ‘ruined’ the lives of his victims and their families, and had ‘caused immense harm’.
Chris Wood, defending, said that there was very limited mitigation as Jones had been found guilty following a trial. He noted, however, that Jones had made it clear that he intended to make good use of his time in custody.
In addition to the 38-year extended determinate prison sentence, Jones was also handed a lifetime sexual harm prevention order and will have to be on the sex offenders’ register for life. He will not face the possibility of parole until he has served 22 years of his sentence.
