The Tamil Nadu government and Racing Promotions Private Limited (RRPL) have launched an exciting new street circuit, which will also be the first in India and South Asia to host night races. On Wednesday, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the circuit.
The 3.5 km track is located around the Island Grounds in the heart of Chennai and will feature 19 corners with multiple chicanes, elevation changes, and views of the Marina Beach Road and the Bay of Bengal.
The track will be hosting a couple of events in December - the F4 Indian Championship and the Indian Racing League - with an investment of Rs 42 crore from the SDAT. According to its press release, the championships will feature aspiring and up-and-coming drivers from India and overseas.
The F4 Indian Championship is an FIA-certified event, while the Indian Racing League is the only motorsports league in India with men and women drivers competing in a team-based championship.
