Channel 4 cancels beloved holiday TV series in major revamp.
Christmas is coming and it looks like Channel 4 has decided to axe one of its festive favourites, The Greatest Snowman. The competition series, hosted by Sue Perkins, followed a group of celebrities as they headed to the Alps for a series of snowbuilding challenges. With the help of a crew of sculptors, engineers, and snow builders, the stars were tasked to create some of the most extraordinary snow creations ever seen on TV.
Their work was then judged on form and artistry by Swedish sculpting sisters Sara and Emilie Steele and acclaimed British artist and sculptor Taslim Martin. The show ran in 2021 and 2022 and was well-loved by viewers, with an average of 1.8 million tuning in each time.

Notably, some of the series’ previous contestants included Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Jonny Vegas, and Gemma Collins. Channel 4 had teased the series as seeing the famous faces ‘risking chilblains as they attempt to carve and construct incredible structures made from snow and ice’. It was said that the competition would culminate in the creation of ‘The Greatest Snowman’.

However, when the first special hit screens, some viewers were left scratching their heads as they were expecting to watch Hugh Jackman’s 2017 film The Greatest Showman. One confused viewer wrote: ‘We got excited to see The Greatest Showman on tonight, turned over to find its #thegreatestsnowman. Very disappointing.’

Despite the initial confusion, many ended up loving the show and said it was an ‘absolute treat’ that helped them get into the Christmas spirit. The Agency has contacted Channel 4 and representatives for Sue Perkins for comment, but it appears the show has been cut from the broadcaster’s upcoming Christmas TV programme. Instead, viewers can look forward to specials of series’ including Late Night Lycett, The Piano and The Last Leg.
