Celebrate Dasara Responsibly by Reducing Noise Pollution

Gonikoppalu, Oct. 6: The Dasara procession, held on the final day of Navaratri, should be celebrated in a meaningful manner that emphasizes the indigenous culture and heritage of Kodagu. Virajpet DySP Mahesh Kumar advised that the 'Dasha Mantapas' (the ten ceremonial tableaux) must prioritize controlling noise pollution.

He was speaking at a meeting organized by the Police Department for the presidents and office-bearers of the Dasha Mantapas at the Umamaheshwari Temple hall in Gonikoppalu.

He stated that the Dasha Mantapas must strictly adhere to the regulations imposed by the Police Department while participating in the final procession of the Gonikoppa Dasara festival. The Mantapas must commence their procession at the scheduled time. He added that the true purpose of the Dasara celebration should be upheld by displaying the essence of the mythological stories to the public wherever appropriate.

He further emphasized that loudspeakers used on the Mantapas must operate within prescribed noise limits and that obtaining official permission from the department for their use is mandatory. He noted that it is everyone's responsibility to comply with High Court orders regarding the control of noise pollution.
