CeeLo Green, who was once part of the renowned hip-hop group Goodie Mob and hails from Atlanta, was recently bestowed with a prestigious award from DeKalb County. The W.W. King Bridge Builder Award, one of the highest civilian honors in the county, was presented to Green on June 25th. The special ceremony was held during DeKalb's African American Music Appreciation Month celebration, where the recording artist was recognized by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. In addition to this accolade, Green was also honored with the African American Music Appreciation Month Trailblazer Award.

When interviewed by 11 Alive, Green, whose real name is Thomas Calloway, expressed his surprise and gratitude, saying, "It feels surreal to be talking about my actual accomplishments; it's truly amazing. I am filled with nothing but gratitude and appreciation. Thank you so much." Born and raised in Atlanta, Green's music journey began in 1991 as a rapper with Goodie Mob, alongside Khujo, T-Mo, and Big Gipp. After releasing three successful albums with the group, he ventured into a solo career and released two solo projects.

However, it was with the formation of the group Gnarls Barkley that Green's career reached new heights. Their lead single, "Crazy," released in 2006, made him a global sensation. His solo hit, "Forget You," released in 2010, further solidified his fame. Later, he also served as a judge on the popular singing competition show, The Voice.

DeKalb County CEO Micheal Thurman praised Green for his contributions, saying, "He does so much for so many people, not just in music but also in inspiring and motivating young individuals and providing them with the resources to chase their dreams." During the ceremony, the hip-hop icon also took a moment to remember and honor producer Rico Wade, who had recently passed away. In his emotional tribute, Green said, "Rest in peace to the legendary and irreplaceable Rico Wade, who changed my life. I am grateful to all those who have been touched, moved, and inspired by my music."

And speaking of music, Green also shared exciting news about his upcoming projects. He revealed that he is currently working on a new Gnarls Barkley album, much to the delight of his fans. With his talent, passion, and commitment to uplifting others, it's no wonder why CeeLo Green has been recognized by DeKalb County as a true bridge builder, connecting people through the power of music.
