Cathy Hughes, the founder and chairperson of Urban One, Inc., recently unveiled an exciting preview of the proposed resort, casino, and entertainment complex headed to Richmond, Virginia. This November, Richmonders will have the chance to cast their ballots on the project.
Hughes expressed her delight in the city of Richmond that has been a part of Urban One for over two decades. She mentioned that the proposed project is an opportunity for Richmond to invest in itself. It is an opportunity to generate $30 million every year and use that money towards creating a better future for the city.
The project is a joint venture between Churchill Downs, Inc. and Urban One, Inc. and if approved, it will create 1,300 new jobs and bring in an estimated $30 million in revenue to the city. Notably, there will be no public funding, incentives, or tax breaks involved in the project.
Alfred Liggins, III, CEO of Urban One, Inc., commented that Richmonders wanted great jobs, community investment, green space, and top-tier entertainment and with Richmond Grand, they have delivered. He said that the upcoming resort and casino has something for everyone – incredible shows, exciting gaming and entertainment, outdoor recreation, luxurious spas and pools, and a huge addition of jobs and tax revenue for the city.
The proposed complex is set to include a 250-room luxury hotel, high-tech film and audio production facilities, and a state-of-the-art 3,000-seat concert venue. Richmond Grand is indeed a plan by Richmond, for Richmond, and if approved, the entire city will reap the benefits.
