Moises Caicedo's Chelsea debut was not the success he had hoped for. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher described the Ecuadorian midfielder's performance as a "nightmare".
The 20-year-old was named on the bench for the club's trip to West Ham and entered proceedings with approximately 25 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, his side were trailing 2-1 and had to play against 10 men.
Caicedo lost a number of early challenges and was fortunate to have Roberto Sanchez to thank for keeping out Pablo Fornals after the Chelsea man gave away possession close to the box.
Things went from bad to worse in the 93rd minute when Caicedo was guilty of bringing down former Chelsea full-back Emerson in the area. Lucas Paqueta then stepped up to convert the penalty kick, leaving Chelsea with only one point from their first two matches.
Carragher was also highly critical of Caicedo's performance, saying: “That man Caicedo has had a bit of a nightmare since he came on, you have to say. It's a poor, lazy challenge. Emerson always knows he'll get there before him. We all did watching it! He hasn't started great since coming on.”
It was not the start Caicedo was hoping for, and it is clear he will need to up his game if he hopes to gain a regular spot in the Chelsea team.
