Chelsea have been trying to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer, but Brighton have rejected all of their offers. The Premier League club recently turned down the Blues' £80 million bid for the Ecuadorian midfielder. Brighton are now holding out for a £100 million transfer fee for Caicedo, who currently has a hamstring injury.
Paul Barber, Brighton's chief executive and deputy chairman, expressed his plan for the midfielder ahead of this weekend's Premier League opener against Luton Town. He stated that they are looking forward to seeing Caicedo being a part of the team.
"Moises had a slight hamstring injury late in training and was pulled out for that reason," Barber said. "With a Premier League season just a week away, it makes no sense to risk him today. We’re looking forward to Moises starting the season with us, he’s a Brighton player under a long-term contract."
However, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has suggested that Caicedo's future at the club is uncertain. He believes that if the player leaves, the club will find an appropriate replacement.
"If Moises leaves, we will find another important player," De Zerbi said. "And if Moises stays, I will be happy for us, for the team, for the club. But it’s not my problem now, if Moises leaves, we will bring another player in. We are Brighton, and under our policy there is the possibility to lose some players at the end of the season. It was the same for [Alexis] Mac Allister and [Levi] Colwill."
