The Borders Book Festival is back for its 20th edition this June, bringing a week of lively debate and fun to Harmony Garden. Festival Director Alistair Moffat said: “We look forward to welcoming back our audiences, authors and supporters to four glorious days of lively debate, fun and laughter.”

High profile guests include Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, The Great British Bake Off winner Peter Sawkins, and crime writing royalty Val McDermid, Mark Billingham and Doug Johnstone. The festival will open with the announcement of the winner of the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, one of the UK’s leading literary prizes.

Meanwhile, the Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival returns to Stirling on 22 June. BBC Radio Scotland presenter Nicola Meighan will be interviewing Ambrose Parry aka bestselling crime writer Chris Brookmyre and consultant anaesthetist turned author Marisa Haetzman. Tickets are deliberately priced at only £5 to encourage a local audience to attend.

The ACE Winches Scottish Traditional Boat Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary on 1-2 July in Portsoy, with a flotilla of traditional boats, crafts, music performances and local food and drink. Headliners of the Big Gig on the Back Green are RhythmnReel, a renowned Highland rock band.

The Art Car Boot Sale, Scotland’s biggest contemporary art market, will be held at SWG3 on 24-25 June. With more than 100 renowned artists from across Scotland, highlights include Glasgow based visual artist Claire Barclay, Jon McFarland Print Prize winner Amanda Seibæk, and Sekai Machache, a Zimbabwean-Scottish visual artist and curator.

The Scottish National Whisky Festival is coming to Inverness Eden Court on 1 July. Visitors can sample hundreds of whiskies and other spirits, enjoy drinks from industry-leading mixologists and local food vendors, and be entertained by a specially-curated bill of live music.

The Genesis Scottish Open returns to The Renaissance Club in North Berwick from 12-16 July. Players from the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR have already been announced, such as defending champion Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose.
